Can you speak Gaeilge?
The English Speaking Society (ESS) had another visitor this week. She spoke to ESS members about some of her experiences in Kumamoto. She also talked about the culture of her home country.
AnneMarie Ichiki grew up in the country of Ireland. There, not only English, but also Gaeilge, that is Irish, is spoken. English and Gaeilge are the two official languages. AnneMarie demonstrated by introducing herself in the Gaeilge language. It was fun to hear! It made me think of when Elves speak in the movie “Lord of the Rings.” Ireland is called “Eire” in Gaeilge. See the map below for other location names in English and Gaeilge.
